Carpets can add a lot of warmth to a home or other space. That said, keeping carpets clean often takes some work. Fortunately, with a Do It Yourself (DIY) solution, you can remove even tough stains. You might think that simply renting or buying a carpet cleaning machine will be enough to remove stains, but in practice, you may need to take further steps.
Off-the-shelf carpet cleaning solutions may not be enough.
Fortunately, you can create a powerful at-home cleaning solution using hydrogen peroxide, liquid dish soap, baking soda, and water. You’ll want to mix these ingredients in a bowl to create a paste that should have the consistency of a cake batter.
Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful cleaner, so be careful while handling it. Further, it’s smart to test the paste on a small area of carpeting before you apply it to a large stain. If you use too much hydrogen peroxide it may damage the carpeting. After vacuuming the carpet thoroughly, you’ll rub the solution into the stains on your carpet. Then leave the solution to sit for a few hours. Once the solution dries, you can then vacuum it up. Often, the stain will be eliminated or at least reduced. Repeat as needed.
