In this video, a commercial heating oil provider explains what happens during the oil delivery process. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), 5.3 million US households used heating oil as their primary heat energy source in the 2020-2021 winter.

In 2020, the commercial sector used two billion gallons of oil heat (residential consumers used 2.6 billion gallons.) The delivery process can either happen automatically or on demand. Using previous oil consumption data, including HVAC system efficiency and tank size, the commercial heating oil provider can estimate the next delivery period. Any oil dispensed will be billed, and a receipt of services provided will be issued.

Monitoring the fuel level is easy and similar to how it would be performed in a vehicle. Simply insert a dry dipstick into the tank and view the oil level from the stick. In doing so, a client can tell whether they need a delivery. To avoid inconveniences, it’s best not to wait till the tank is empty to order a delivery. Instead, give a 48-hour notice. Upon arrival at the property, the oil provider will cleanly dispense the oil and leave a receipt.
