Hardscaping is a profession that requires a lot of skill and knowledge. To get started, though, you also need the right tools. This article will explore the basic equipment you need to build your hardscape business.
Measure Twice
The first priority should be to have the proper measuring equipment. Even if you have the highest grade compactors and skid steers, your job will turn out badly if your measurements are off. Invest in a laser to measure grade, and you will be able to confidently tackle any job.
General Variety
Get as many handtools as you can. You can’t really have too much. Sledgehammers, shovels, dead-blow hammers, come-along rakes, brushes, speed squares, string lines, etc. You’ll need 2ft, 4ft, and 6ft levelers. Don’t forget WD-40, glue guns, and possibly even insect repellent of some kind.
Heavy Duty
For the heavy stuff, get a skid steer with tracks, and bring plywood to help it navigate difficult topography. You’ll want to invest in a strong plate compactor, too, though you can rent one until you have enough funds to buy. If you can, get a compactor with 10,000lbs of centrifugal force. Additionally, you’ll need a concrete cutting saw with a diamond blade.
It will take time to acquire all of this equipment, so always remember that you can rent it in the meantime.
